Thriving Through Adversity

Aviation was never a given in my life. It was an idea introduced to me as a junior in high school, something that had never felt like a plausible path before.

Growing up, it simply was not a career that was visible, let alone represented by women. So, when I began flight training at 16, I kept my focus simple: finish high school and earn my pilot certificate. I was not thinking about the long term picture, what kind of pilot I wanted to be, what my life might look like, or how this career could evolve alongside me. At that point, aviation was just the next step. However, aviation seems to have a way of expanding your perspective.

By the time I reached college, that once short term mindset began to shift. As I gained more experience and confidence, I started asking bigger questions. Where do I fit in this industry? What kind of impact do I want to have? That is when I found business aviation, and more importantly, I found a community. I was surrounded by mentors who went beyond sharing their own success stories. They took the time to understand my goals and helped me shape a path that felt both ambitious and achievable. They showed me that success in aviation is not linear, and that adaptability is not just helpful, it is essential.

At the time, I did not realize it, but I was being introduced to the very principles that HERA stands for. Access, mentorship, and the belief that anyone can succeed when given the right tools and support.

Like many people entering aviation, my journey has not followed a perfectly straight line. There have been moments of uncertainty, transition, and growth, times where plans shifted and I had to adjust quickly. Yet, those moments did not set me back, they shaped me. They taught me how to stay flexible, how to embrace change, and how to trust that each step forward, no matter how unexpected, is still progress.

Now, after graduating, earning my certifications, and entering a new chapter of my career, I found my way to HERA. Joining was not just about becoming part of an organization, it was about becoming part of a mission that had already impacted me long before I even knew its name.

HERA represents the kind of support system that changes trajectories. It creates space for mentorship, fosters confidence, and reminds people, especially women in aviation, that they belong here.

Looking back, adaptability has been the common thread through every stage of my journey. From discovering aviation unexpectedly, to navigating training, to finding my place within the industry, each step required me to evolve. Through that evolution, I have gained not only skills, but perspective. Now, I am proud to be in a position where I can support others who are just beginning to consider aviation, or who may be navigating their own uncertainties. Aviation may not have been a given in my life, but through adaptability, community, and support, it has become exactly where I am meant to be.
